Assignment 1b – The Blog

Our Group meeting was scheduled for 1pm. I was on time but unfortunately, at the wrong location. By the time I arrived the rest of the Group were quite involved in the discussion and analysing their findings from the Learning Style questionnaire.
Quickly reading through the four types of learning categories I surmised that I was an Activist, just like the rest of the Group. The reason I had to do it this way was because I hadn't done the Test as I failed to find the link on the Handout. My fault entirely and it's so obvious now that I found it.
On completion of the Questionnaire I was surprised to learn that I am a Reflector. On reading the paragraph about them I have to agree with what it says. I also read the one on Activists which was probably how I was 15 years ago. Always in the thick of it, creating, organising and participating. Regrettably time has changed all that and I am now resigned to the fact that I am a Reflector.  In some ways it is like the reflector on the rear of a vehicle, it absorbs the light upon its surface and returns it having processed it i.e. car headlights pick up red reflectors by the side of the road for right-hand bends and orange for left-hand bends.
Is this now my role as a Reflector, to inform people which direction to go in? If it is then I am pleased to advise them.

My Group Observations
I completed this table on Wednesday 19 Jan 2011 before going to the meeting.
Stephen McKay

Fairly quiet but very knowledgeable about a variety of topics. Seems to have a broad spectrum of information.

Jonathon McDonald

Very likeable lad and seems to know his subject(s) well. Very supportive to the rest of the Group.

Jenny Robinson

Studying two diverse disciplines at University. Always competent and self assured.

Yinan Sun

Very quiet girl who does not say too much but is always there as support and gets on with the task in hand.

Grant Payne

Very knowledgeable about the bar and restaurant trade. Like to lead from the front.

Rebecca White

Very informative and supportive. It was Becca who kept me in touch with the Group in my early days at Dundee University.

On hearing how all the Group members had been categorised after the Questionnaire (all Activists) it looks as if I got it wrong apart from Grant.
Ah well – something to reflect upon.
